Where Do The Candidates Stand On Climate?
By C-Change Conversations
Climate change is an issue that affects the values all people share – safety, health, jobs, economy, stability, and our children’s future. It’s a human issue, not a political one. It should unite us, not divide us.
And yet, barreling toward us is an election that has substantial ramifications for our energy transition and how quickly we can reduce our current rate of global warming.
Neither presidential candidate is spending much time talking about climate change. Donald Trump hasn’t said much beyond “Drill, baby, drill.” (You can read our thoughts about that here.) Kamala Harris hasn’t laid out a climate policy, though she has repeatedly stated that she stands behind the Biden administration’s Inflation Reduction Act (the largest investment in carbon reduction ever made by the United States). There are also many House and Senate races that will factor into climate decisions in the coming years.
Our take? Climate change is coming for every American. Both parties need to take the risks seriously and bring forward credible ideas to keep our economy and society safe. Fortunately, many conservatives and oil executives agree that it’s imperative to continue to invest in the tech of the future that will move us toward carbon neutrality. And many experts agree that we’ve already made so much progress, we won’t reverse course now – but that forward-thinking policies are crucial to our pace. And we need to move faster.
To help you parse the deluge of campaign coverage, we’ve compiled some resources that outline the candidates’ differences in approach. We hope you’ll find the links below informative and that you’ll share them with others.
